New icip website

Dear Friends,
The International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) is very pleased to announce the launch of its new website (http://www.icipe.org).

The website has been designed with the goal of providing our esteemed partners and the general public with a comprehensive, user-friendly and efficient platform on the Centre’s activities.

The site’s homepage, which we intend to keep regularly updated, is primarily dedicated to highlighting the latest news at icipe. Among the current events is the launch of the Young Entrepreneurs in Honey and Silk project in Ethiopia, in partnership with the MasterCard Foundation, and the signing of an agreement between icipe and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, for the Adaptation for Ecosystem Resilience in Africa (AFERIA).

The rest of the site is categorised as follows:

About Us: This section presents the mission and vision of icipe, the Centre’s unique history, and details on where and how we work. It also provides an overview of the management and leadership of icipe, including an organogram, and sub-sections on its Governing Council and the Senior Management. In addition, there is a dedicated sub-section on the Centre’s staff.

Research: This section provides an overview of the icipe 4H Themes – Human Health, Animal Health, Environmental Health and Plant Health; the Research Support Units, Facilities, and our emerging Social Science and Impact Assessment Unit, with clear indication of the collaborative activities between the programmes and projects under all these elements.

Capacity Building and Institutional Building: In this section, up-to-date information on the Centre’s postgraduate and postdoctoral training programmes (including available opportunities); training courses and workshops intended for various stakeholders, and institutional building activities, are highlighted. Also presented is a comprehensive list of the young scientists currently undergoing training at icipe, with details of their research projects, sponsors and mentors.

Publications: Under the Journal Articles section, you will find a list of peer reviewed papers published by icipe to-date, with the option of either searching the entire database, or journals published within a specific year. Also available on this section are annual reports, corporate publications, manuals, newsletters, policy briefs, conference proceedings, and past publications dating as far back as the Centre’s inception over 40 years ago.

Media Coverage: This section, which we are regularly updating, provides a centralised point for icipe’s ever-expanding presence in local and international press.

Donors and Partners: Here, we focus on a range of institutions that support icipe including:

  • Investors – donors providing direct funding to the Centre, among them, governments, private foundations and United Nations agencies;
  • Research partners – among them universities and research institutes that collaborate with, and/or sub-grant icipe, thereby augmenting the impact of the Centre’s work;
  • Private sector partners – who are especially critical in the commercialisation of icipe’s technologies; and
  • Communities – organised groups of end-users who contribute towards field studies, uptake and dissemination of the Centre’s technologies and strategies.

The new icipe website comes with a drop down menu, allowing visitors to view all sections at a glance, and to therefore find information of interest much faster. The menu is supported by a global search function located on the header of the website, as well as individual search bars on all sections.
The site, which is responsive on desktop and mobile devices, is synchronised with all icipe social media networks – Twitter, Facebook,LinkedIn, Flickr and YouTube.
